Research
The research done at the Paris observatory covers all the fields of contemporary astronomy and astrophysics:
- the study of the Sun and Sun-Earth relations,
- planets and planetary systems,
- star formation, the interstellar medium,
- the formation and evolution of galaxies,
- astroparticles and cosmology,
- time and space metrology,
- the history and philosophy of science.
The Observatory develops and implements national and international services, and contributes to the major projects for the observation of the Universe.
Education
Education is organized by the Teaching and Training Unit (l’Unité Formation et Enseignement) of the Observatoire de Paris. Various types of training are programmed:
- the doctoral school in astronomy and
astrophysics of the Ile-de-France which Observatoire de Paris is lead institution - disciplines at the Master is level; some of these are unique in France
- specific disciplines, notably for school teachers, and to obtain university diplomas.
Outreach
Public Outreach, via a scientific and technological approach, constitutes an important part of the institution’s life:
- open house days, organized on the occasion of important astronomical happenings
- exhibitions
- pedagogical rounds
- organized visits
- availability of travelling exhibitions and pedagogical tools
