Insertion in orbit of Venus Express on 11 April 2006, and first images of Venus south pole

After a perfect launch on 9 novembre 2005 and a 5 month travel, the ESA probe Venus Express has arrived at destination. The insertion in orbit of Venus Express has occured on tuesday 11 april, in a nominal way. ESA has now two planetary probes in orbit, one around Mars, and one around Venus.

The Observatoire de Paris is involved in Venus Express on the VIRTIS instrument (infrared spectro-imagery) of which a channel has been built at LESIA, and several scientists are co-investigators on the instrument PFS (Fourier Transform Spectrometer)
