Observables and Scientific Potential of the VLTI instrument AMBER

We present the three telescopes near infrared VLTI focal instrument, from a potential user point a view: what are the quantities measured by AMBER and what kind of astrophysical problems can it constrain. We also discuss performances in terms of resolution, accuracy, feature contrast magnitude. The goal is to inform potential users while the time to make first observing proposals is approaching.
