Particle acceleration by Alfven waves
Philippe LOUARN, Vincent GENOT and Fabrice MOTTEZ
A numerical study of particle acceleration by Alfven waves is proposed. The model is based on the interaction between incoming Alfven waves and a prexisting plasma inhomogeneity. Emphasis will be put on the non linear evolution of the mechanism. In particular, it will be shown that
the process of alfven waves/particules interaction is just the first
stage of a complex evolution that leads to an intricate generation
of various electrostatic structures in the plasma. The effects on
the distribution functions will be discussed (heating/acceleration).
