P-mode frequencies and splittings from 10 years of IRIS network data

10 and half years of data (a complete solar cycle) obtained by the IRIS network (full disk integration of the sun 'as a star') have been merged to some data sets obtained by other instruments, and have then be submitted to the partial gap filling method called 'repetitive music', that takes advantage of the regular spacing of the p-mode frequencies. The final result is one of the most precise lists of low degree p-mode frequencies, integrated over all the phases of the magnetic activity cycle, and certainly the most precise list of low degree p-mode rotational splittings. With the consequence of a better than before estimation of the solar core rotation.

L'astronomie en Antarctique: utopie ou aubaine à exploiter?

La station franco-italienne Concordia sera opérationnelle pour y faire hiverner 15 personnes à partir de 2004. La qualification du site astronomique et les premières observations en imagerie infra-rouge et photométrie visible sont au programme des premiers hivernages. Les potentialités de ce site semblent tellement prometteuses qu'il ne semble pas pouvoir faire l'économie de l'antarctique dans la réflexion prospective sur les futurs grands projets de l'astronomie européenne. Je ferai le point de ce que l'on connait déjà à coup sûr, et de ce que l'on mesure pour en avoir le coeur net, en passant par les coopérations qui sont en train de se structurer.
