Characterization of the piston effect at Paranal with VINCI commissioning instrument (ASHRA)

We present in this poster the first analysis of the piston effect measured in the K band by VINCI, the commissioning instrument of the VLTI at Paranal. Both internal and atmospheric contributions are analysed in order to estimate the internal stability of the VLTI complete system and the external disturbance. Different methods of data reduction for the extraction of the piston are discussed and a preliminary statistical analysis of the interferometric coherence time at Paranal is presented.
