A general view of the status of the ESO LP "Galaxy Formation,Early Nucleosynthesis, and the First Stars" will be given.A new step has been the obtention of 48 orbits of the HST for studying the lines of the r-process elements only accessible from space. Several giant stars are presenting pattern never observed before, confirming the variability of the yields in the early Galaxy.
