The HD 61273 affair : inquiry on a new Algol (Atelier PNPS)
F. Royer, P. North and D. Briot
Although it is a relatively bright star - 7th magnitude - the star HD 61273, classified as B9 in the HD catalogue, is very scarce in the literature. Periodic photometric variations are detected by Hipparcos, and radial velocity measurements carried out with the Elodie spectrometer correspond to a binary star. A set of 13 spectra, obtained over the last six years, demonstrates the binarity of this star. The H alpha line displays a variable emission. This binary system, of Algol type, with a 12.919 day period, is composed of a B9 dwarf and a K0 giant.
